Terry’s lifelong love for the ocean, wildlife, and wild places—paired with a passion for visual storytelling—made adventure photography a natural calling. He began diving in 1997, but it wasn’t until years later that he brought a DSLR underwater for the first time. That moment changed everything. What began as a personal hobby quickly evolved into a professional pursuit, seamlessly blending his diving experience with his creative eye behind the lens.
“I’m no longer just a diver,” Terry says. “I’m an observer. Oceans, rivers, and lakes have become my studio. Photography is how I share the magic I see.”
How design shaped my photography
Before immersing himself in underwater photography, Terry built a successful career in design—first as a graphic designer, then as a web designer. That foundation in visual composition continues to shape his photography, giving his images a refined sense of form, colour, and storytelling.
Eventually, driven by a thirst for adventure, Terry stepped away from office life and embarked on a photographic sabbatical. From the icy waters of Alaska to the technicolor reefs of French Polynesia, he explored some of the world’s most breathtaking marine environments. Along the way, he learned from seasoned professionals and sharpened his craft, marking the true beginning of his journey as a photographer.

As Terry’s portfolio and experience grew, so did his desire to share his knowledge. He began leading custom workshops and photo expeditions, helping others connect with and document the marine world. A longtime Photoshop expert and former Adobe Evangelist, Terry brings a unique ability to guide students from capture to print—turning raw moments into gallery-ready fine art.
Terry’s passion for exploration eventually led him northward, where he fell in love with the Aurora Borealis. He now spends many seasons in Norway, leading photographers into the Arctic wilderness and teaching them how to capture this awe-inspiring phenomenon with precision and artistry.
